What you give us

To make your dossier we ask for a first name, a form of address, confirmation that you are 18 or over, and your answers to ten questions.

Until you summon a witness, none of this is sent to us. It is kept in your browser's local storage on this device, so your dossier is still there if you refresh the page.

If you summon witnesses

When you choose "Summon a witness", we store your dossier so that the people you invite can find it. We keep your first name, your form of address, your ten answers, and the House, title and reputation they produce.

We also keep two one-way codes that cannot be turned back into anything readable. One proves the dossier is yours, using a key kept only in your browser. The other is made from your network address and browser type mixed with a secret value, and is used only to limit how many dossiers one person can create in an hour. We do not store your network address itself.

We note when your dossier was created and when you last viewed it.

If you testify about someone

A witness gives a first name, confirms they are 18 or over, and answers three multiple choice questions. There is nowhere to write anything else.

We store the first name, the three answers and the time. The person you testify about sees your first name. Your answers are only ever shown to them combined with other witnesses, as the Society's Verdict.

We also keep a one-way code made from your network address and browser type mixed with a secret value. It is never shown to anyone. It is used only to stop one person testifying about the same dossier more than once, and to limit how much one person can testify in an hour.

Where it is kept

Stored dossiers and testimonies are held in a database run by our database provider, Supabase. Only the site's own server can read or change them.

Your share card

Your card image is drawn in your browser. If you save it or share it, where it goes after that is your choice and is governed by the app or site you share it with.

What we do not do

We have no accounts, no passwords, no email addresses and no payments. We do not currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

Hosting

The site is served by a hosting provider, which may keep standard technical logs, such as IP address and browser type, to run and protect the service.

Removing your details

If you have summoned witnesses, choose "Dismiss the Society" on your dossier. It deletes your stored dossier and every testimony given about you straight away, and clears this device. It cannot be undone. "Begin again" does the same once witnesses have been summoned.

If you have not summoned witnesses, "Begin again" or clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes everything, because nothing was stored anywhere else.

If you testified about someone and want your testimony removed, ask them to dismiss the Society, or contact us.

This page will change before launch and again if the site changes what it collects.
